Behind the Lens: Loria King
Loria King is an award-winning independent documentary filmmaker and photographer who brings you stories that dive deep into race, gender, culture, and ethnicity. Today, she’s not just creating content—she’s shaping conversations. Loria serves on the advisory board for the Global Institute for Black Girls in Film & Media, is a proud Changemaker for Black Stock Footage, and is the founder of the Willa Foundation, dedicated to empowering diverse voices through storytelling.
Her passion doesn’t stop with the lens—she's shared her real-world experience as a film professor, teaching both in the classroom and across the globe in Africa, Asia, and South America, where she mentored college students, producing narrative-driven documentaries for non-profits.
Her project, "Black America Is…," which unpacks Black identity, was selected for the 2020 Film Independent/CNN Docuseries Intensive and supported by the Black House Foundation and Level Ground. Loria’s work is all about slaying false narratives surrounding women, Black, Indigenous, and people of color.
